A Spell in the Wild by Alice Tarbuck

Reading this was the first time I’d seen magic described in a way that made sense to me – atmospheric, spooky but ultimately dependent on the natural world and the changing of the seasons. For any urban-dwelling witches feeling a ‘lil lost, this is the perfect book to put you back in touch with your power.

Cunning Women by Elizabeth Lee

A good ‘ol historical fiction set against the backdrop of the 17th century witch trials. It’s based in rural England, steeped in superstition and prejudice - it has a slow, yet precarious feel as the story winds up to a dangerous resolution!

The Wheel by Jennifer Lane

My most recent read of the bunch and the most relatable, too. Lane accompanies us through the wheel of the year as she discovers her path back to witchcraft after spending the past couple of years in the urban jungle. This book inspired me to get back to nature, and to take time out for my craft even when it seems like my emails are more pressing!

Cursed Britain by Thomas Waters

A non-fiction examination of how witchcraft and black magic have evolved from the modern era until now. I found this to contain a lot of unheard of and unusual tales – a valuable edition to my spooky collection.
